Robert Mitchell, AIA, NCARB
Principal
As founder and principal of the firm, Bob is a professional architect licensed in eight states and is nationally certified through the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB). Bob has a hands-on approach and brings attention to detail and a focus on owner needs to our projects. Bob has 42 years of professional design and construction experience, with over 22 years devoted solely to the planning, design, renovation, and construction of emergency services facilities. He has designed and managed over 160 projects throughout the northeast, eastern seaboard, and as far away as Alaska and Texas.
- Completed programming for more than 90 fire stations and emergency services facilities
- Conducted more than 50 feasibility studies evaluating fire station renovations and additions
- Author of the chapter on Renovation and Additions for the Fire Station Design & Construction Handbook published by the International Association of Fire Chiefs
- With his firms, recipient of numerous national awards for fire station design
- Expert in solar design and energy efficiency, recipient of passive solar design awards, and has served as a technical review consultant to the New York State Energy Research & Development Authority

Robert Krzyzanowski
Director of Emergency Services
As the Director of Emergency Services for Wendel, home of the award winning Five Bugles Design, Robert oversees all emergency services construction projects throughout the Midwest, from groundbreaking to ribbon cutting, as well as assisting with design throughout the country for all of Wendel’s offices. He has almost 20 years of experience working on public projects, and has been involved in over 25 fire station projects in the past three years and over 60 during his career.
Robbie’s experience includes a variety of emergency service buildings of various sizes – from a 2,880 square foot addition to the Lafayette Fire Station in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, to the 44,000 square foot fire station in Verona, Wisconsin. This vast array of experience allows him to assist owners in constructing buildings that meet their specific space needs and building type requirements.

Ken Gale, Assoc. AIA, NCARB

Ken brings diversified management experience to Mitchell Associates. Ken has more than 25 years of experience in planning, building design & evaluation, project management, and construction administration. As the liaison between the firm, the client, and the contractors during construction, Ken works to ensure that projects are constructed as designed on time and within budget.
- His projects include more than 110 fire stations, emergency operation centers, and combined municipal facilities.
- Over 25 years’ experience in Essential Facility planning, design, and contract documentation with previous and current work encompassing 25 States.
- Associate Member of the American Institute of Architects with a Bachelor’s Degree in Architectural Technology from New York Institute of Technology
- Current Member of NFPA, Fireman’s Association of the State of New York, International Association of Fire Fighters, and the International Fire Marshals Association.
- Ken sits on three NFPA Technical Committees related to the Fire Service. He is a voting principal member of the NFPA 1550 Standard for Emergency Responder Health & Safety, NFPA 1580 Standard for Emergency Responders Occupational Health, and the NFPA 1225 Standard for Emergency Services Communications.

Juan Carrascal
Designer
Juan is an experienced designer with over 15 years of experience working on a wide variety of projects, including commercial, institutional, and residential, though his specialty is public safety design. His experience spans the project lifecycle from the schematic design phase through the production of construction documents, focusing on operational requirements and buildability. His work includes ensuring that the required equipment fits and that spaces function correctly. With broad technical experience, Juan creates floor plan illustrations, 3-D models, and 360o renderings of our projects, allowing the design team, client, and the public to view the site and building design before it’s built.
